Description
Seven feet tall, museum quality and all hand-carved antique cabinet by one of Europe's finest.
This large and all handcrafted buffet in the Renaissance Style is one of the most impressive antique pieces of furniture that we ever had the pleasure of offering. For this work of art cabinet with its amazing carvings and best ever nutwood patina to have been made by Royal H.P. Mutters and son (from the Hague, Holland) makes this piece even more special. Mutters were known for being one of the best furniture makers Holland (and Europe) ever had and very few pieces ever find their way to the 'open market'. Also, because when you create this level of quality workmanship, you will not nearly 'manu facture' as many pieces as other furniture makers. Highly respected at home and abroad and also known for their excellence in designing and hand-crafting ships interiors, much of their business involved hand-crafting (furniture for) ships interiors for shipyards who mainly built the most luxurious ocean going liners. Because of their world renowned quality craftsmanship and impressive designs they were also asked to work in Palace Het Loo for the Dutch Royals. And possibly even more special, they were also asked to do the interiors of 26 suites on board The Titanic. As a token of their appreciation, H.P. Mutters was even invited for the Titanic´s maiden voyage. Luckily the company was too busy and Mutters kindly declined.
This solid nutwood and solid oak buffet or sideboard is the largest and most impressive of its kind that we have ever seen. When you look at antique furniture every day (and even if you don't) then you will immediately realize that this cabinet can only have been made by (one of) the best, because the entire design, the large size, the quality of the materials and the incredible details really make it stand out. Creating an antique piece of furniture like this on paper would have taken days (if not weeks) and then having the artisans in your company to actually create it and make it come to life by using the most beautiful of materials, to us, is something amazing. Creating a cabinet like this would have been a proper project and when you leave that in the hands of a company like Mutters, they would always deliver. This Renaissance Revival cabinet and the condition it is in, is like an ode to their craftmanship and when taken good care of (like it always has been) this top quality made antique can and will be used and enjoyed by many generations to come. With the prices of good quality labour and good quality materials going up every year and with artisans that are capable of creating a piece like this having virtually gone extinct, an important piece like this can only go up in value. Also, because nothing even remotely beautiful will ever be made again. The quality of the mask sculptures, the lion heads, the inlaid panels in the back, the stunning colums etc, they will all keep drawing your attention and just like a good sculpture this work of art cabinet looks amazing from all angles and from further away as well. All doors and drawers open and shut perfectly and almost all come with a perfect working lock and key. The entire inside of this exclusive and exceptional sideboard too is clean and in superb condition. Only the wealthiest of people in the late 19th or early 20th century would have been able to afford this kind of workmanship and their maids would have been extra careful when putting anything on it or when taking the family silver out of the drawers. It is for that reason that the entire outside of this sideboard too is in such remarkable and unrestored condition.
If you appreciate the uniqueness, the originality, the quality, the beauty and the make of this marked H.P. Mutters cabinet as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially since perfect packing (in custom made crates) and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 5 to 7 days are complimentary. Unfortunately free shipping to Australia is not included for this piece.
Maximum height x width x depth: 84.7 x 74 x 28.3 inches.
Height of the top of the bottom cabinet (so just above the drawers): inches.
Depth of the inside of the bottom cabinet: inches.
We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
Condition report:
Excellent. Wear consistent with age and use. Apart from a few minor imperfections this museum quality cabinet could hardly be in better condition.

Cancellations and Returns
Last updated: 24th March 2025
We want everybody’s Vinterior experience to be seamless, so both buyers and sellers can fall in love with pre-loved. We designed our Terms of sale to treat everybody fairly.
However, sometimes things don’t go exactly to plan, and you may need to cancel or return an order.
To prevent this, we encourage you to check listings, photos and descriptions carefully before you buy. If you aren’t sure about a piece’s condition, size, provenance or shipping, just ask; click Contact seller to get in touch. Always contact your seller first if you have any queries, at any point in your purchase.
Our buyers receive the same protection when buying from all our sellers, both professional and verified.
Can I cancel an order?
There are many reasons why you might need to cancel an order, and you'll often be entitled to a refund. To cancel an order, click Create cancellation on the order page.
If you cancel your order before it has been dispatched, you will receive a full refund - including delivery costs. However, if your item has been shipped, delivery costs will not be included in your refund.
Please note: orders of bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
Can I return an order?
We understand that sometimes a piece isn’t the perfect fit. So if you no longer want your order, our returns process will ensure it finds a new home fast.
The Vinterior Guarantee included with your purchase entitles you to 14-day returns - allowing you to return any item within 14 days of the delivery date (except in specific circumstances, detailed below).
You can return your order if...
It isn't what you expected
If what arrives isn’t what you ordered, you can open a return. Just send us some photo evidence that the listing was inaccurate, misleading or misrepresented your purchased piece, and you’ll receive a refund.
You change your mind
If you don’t feel a piece is right for your space, you can return it. Once you request a change of mind return, you’ll be responsible for shipping the piece back to your seller as soon as possible. Delivery costs are non-refundable.
It's damaged in transit
In the rare event that an item arrives damaged or defective, you have a full 30 days from the date of delivery to return it for a full refund.
If your purchase arrives broken, always let us know. If Proovia delivered the piece, we can raise an insurance claim on the seller’s behalf. Or, the seller can raise a claim with their chosen courier.
What can't I return?
Just as there are some orders you can’t cancel, there are some you cant return, too. Personalised, bespoke or made-to-order pieces are non-returnable, and non-refundable. Sellers may also reject your return if the item has been altered in any way.
Please note: pieces on our site are pre-loved, not new. They may show some wear and tear; this is not sufficient grounds for a refund, unless the seller has misrepresented the item’s condition.
Lastly, neither Vinterior nor our sellers are liable for any damages or loss sustained in transit via third parties.
I'm eligible for a return. Now what?
To initiate a return, log into your Vinterior account, then go to the relevant order page and click Create a return. In the return request, be sure to include all the details: the reason for your return, an in-depth description, and photos of any issues or damage.
How will I receive my refund?
Once the seller confirms they’ve received the item (in the same condition it was sent), we will send your refund to your original payment method.
All items are inspected on return. If the seller receives the return with damage they don’t recognise, we will not be able to process your refund and the seller may need to send the piece back to you. You will be required to cover these delivery costs.
