Description:
This is an exhibition quality antique English 4½ft wide freestanding Edwardian red walnut roll top desk, with twin pedestals, by Angus of London, circa 1910, boasting a comprehensive interior, in excellent original condition. It is rare to see rolltop desks made from red walnut; they are usually made from oak or mahogany and it makes this Edwardian roll top a very sought-after office desk.
The desk has been constructed from the best quality red walnut and the exterior of the desk features well-pronounced fielded (bevel edged) walnut panels. The number of small drawers within the top section of the desk denotes the quality of the desk and status of its owner. This desk features 12 internal drawers and 13 pigeonholes to the top section.
Constructed with an “S” shaped design to the top section, this Edwardian red walnut roll top desk was designed to be freestanding in the centre of a room. The sliding tambour, which includes posting slots either side, can be lifted up to reveal a bank of internal drawers and compartments. The purposes of the posting slots were for people to “post” letters into the desk, whilst the desk was closed and locked, or the owner was away from the desk.
The interior houses 12 internal drawers, 10 of which incorporates solid brass label holders. While none of the old original labels survive, a replacement set has been faithfully reproduced to fit the label holders (see photos). The new labels feature several extra options, to best suit the user’s needs. The larger internal drawers feature their original brass knobs. Set within the bank of drawers are 13 pigeonhole compartments, ideal for storing paperwork, letters and other accoutrements. A letter rack is also situated either side of the Edwardian red walnut roll top desk to store letters upright.
When the sliding tambour is pulled down and secured using the original lock and working key, this will lock the top section. The top drawers to each pedestal retain their own individual working lock and key. All locks are present and the desk comes with a working key.
The Edwardian desk stands on two large pedestals, which incorporate a bank of graduated drawers. The bottom right drawer features a large open filing drawer. The drawers retain their original walnut cup handles. Sitting on top of each pedestal are two large pull-out-writing slides, ideal for organising additional paper work around you, whilst you work. There is a solid red walnut fielded panel modesty board in between the two pedestals at the back of the desk. The desk dismantles into three main sections for easy transportation and access into your home.
This Edwardian red walnut roll top desk is a truly classic example of a fine quality English roll top desks from the early 20th century period. The level of detail and craftsmanship displayed is high. It is rare to see an example, which not only retains all its internal drawers, but is also in excellent original condition.
The rolltop desk boasts a rich dark red-brown colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
This Edwardian red walnut roll top desk would look superb in a variety of rooms from the work place to the home office in either a traditional or contemporary setting. The walnut pedestal desk would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
This is an exhibition quality antique English 4½ft wide freestanding Edwardian red walnut roll top desk, with twin pedestals, by Angus of London, circa 1910, boasting a comprehensive interior, in excellent original condition. The desk has been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop, therefore the colour and finish is to an excellent standard. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering its age. There are no ink or water stains or scratches to the main desk-top. There are old use marks to the tops of the writing slide supports and insides of the drawers (see photos) and plinths. The tambour incorporates a working barrel lock, with a working key. When the sliding tambour is pulled down and secured using the lock, this will lock the drawers in the pedestals below. There are no splits in the tambour (which again, is common in these types of desks). The Edwardian red walnut roll top desk retains all its internal brass label holders and turned knobs. While none of the original labels survive, an updated, extended set of labels has been produced to fit the label holders; these are brand new and free from damage. It is rare to see an Edwardian rolltop desk displaying such quality in such good condition. This pedestal desk is well made, solid in joint and ready to use.

UK 2-Year Warranty:
A 2-year warranty against mechanical failure is provided commencing from the date of delivery. This warranty does not cover accidental damage (i.e. dropping the clock). In the highly unlikely event there is mechanical failure, we will arrange to have the clock collected free of charge and returned to us for any repair that is required. Once the clock has been repaired, we will then return the clock to you free of charge. Most reasons for the clock stopping is due to the clock not being positioned correctly at the right angle on the wall. This can be easily corrected by re-positioning the angle of the clock to ensure that an even “tick-tock” noise can be heard from the pendulum. This warranty policy only applies to deliveries to the UK.
Free 14 Days UK Returns & Refunds:
A free 14-day “no quibble” returns policy (from the date you receive the item) is available if you are not happy with this item. We will collect the item free of charge from you (we do not charge a return fee / collection fee). You will be given a full refund as long as the item is returned in the same condition. We will collect returns using our own specialist furniture delivery company. We will not accept returns via a courier service (due to experience of damaged items in transit). This refund policy only applies to deliveries to the UK.

Customers shall receive the same level of consumer protection on purchases irrespective of whether they are buying from a Professional Vendor or Non-Professional Vendor.
Should you have any questions regarding your transaction, please contact the Vendor in the first instance.

If a Customer changes their mind or decides for any other reason not to purchase the Goods before they have been dispatched, they can cancel the order on the Site and receive a refund.

Types of returns and responsibilities
Change of mind return
Consumers can return the goods due to a change of mind. Once a return is requested, the buyer is in charge of shipping the goods back to the seller and should organise it as soon as possible. Shipment costs to and from buyers are non-refundable.
Item not fit for purpose
Acting under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, customers may return faulty Goods that are damaged or the listing on the Site is materially inaccurate, misleading, or misrepresents the Goods. In these cases, the Customer must provide photographic evidence to Vinterior and the Vendor or reject the delivery on arrival.
Damage in transit
Vinterior must be informed of any damage in transit. If Proovia delivered the items, Vinterior will then raise an insurance claim on behalf of the Vendor with the delivery company. If the seller organised a delivery, they would be asked to raise a claim with their courier. Once the claim is resolved and any relevant decision regarding the insurance has been made, any applicable refunds will be processed.

If an item is returned to the seller damaged or in an unsuitable condition, Vinterior will not be able to process the refund, and the seller may have to send it back (and ask you to cover the delivery costs). All items are inspected on return.
What can't be returned?
As with cancellations, the right to return an item does not apply to the following types of Goods, which are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to the Customer's specific requirements.
Please note that vintage items are not sold as new and are likely to show signs of wear and tear. This is not sufficient grounds for a refund.
Vendors may refuse a return of an item if the Customer has altered it in any way.
Neither Vinterior nor the Vendors are liable for any damages or loss sustained in transit via third parties.
