Description:
This is a good quality antique mahogany 15” Smiths wall clock, with a railway station design, incorporating a Smiths timepiece mechanism, circa 1930 - 1940, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory and is now in good working order. This mahogany wall clock boasts a beautiful dark red-brown colour mahogany case, with a moulded brass bezel and a pendulum access door on the underside to enable you to attach / adjust the pendulum.
The 15” Smiths wall clock houses a top-quality single brass barrel spring driven English Smiths timepiece movement, which would have been shipped over to India and then cased locally, in order to reduce shipping costs, at the time. A timepiece mechanism is not designed to chime or strike. The movement has been restored and serviced and is now in good mechanical order, ensuring this clock is reliable and keeps good time. The pendulum length, which is attached to the mechanism by accessing the clock from the door below, can be adjusted to allow you to regulate the speed of the clock. The clock comes with a key, which is used to wind the mechanism through the centre of the face dial.
The mahogany case has been cleaned and French polished (to a red-brown finish), to revive the wonderful colour and patination of the grain in the timber. This clock features a “deep dish” case design which means that case is of better quality and is slightly deeper in depth than the 16” clocks. On the back of the clock is a bracket to attach the clock to the wall.
The 15” Smiths wall clock incorporates a later tin dial, painted with black Arabic numbers, with an elegant shaped hour and minute hand. A hinged solid brass bezel houses the glass face that protects the tin dial and face whilst in operation. The brass bezel opens on a right-hand hinge to allow you to adjust or set the time. There is a catch to the back of the clock that locks the brass bezel in place and stops it from accidentally swinging open.
This mahogany wall clock boasts brass levelling lugs and pins, which are attached to each side of the clock and are designed to give the clock traction against the wall and allow the angle of the case to be adjusted away from the wall if the clock is hung on wall which is not vertically straight, such as in old buildings.
The railway clock looks great in a variety of rooms from and also in either a traditional or contemporary setting. This truly is a very beautiful wall clock of classic styling and quality construction. It will become a member of the family after not too long! So, don't miss out your chance to own a lovely clock.
Condition Report:
This is a good quality antique mahogany 15” Smiths wall clock, with a railway station design, incorporating a Smiths timepiece mechanism, circa 1930 - 1940, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory and is now in good working order. Nominal old use marks to the case and tin dial but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The mahogany case is in good condition having been French polished by hand in our workshop. The tin dial has been replaced at some point in the past. There are nominal old use marks on the tin dial, near the “Smiths” name and 2pm position (see photos). The brass-hinged bezel is in good working order, with some play to the hinge. The bezel-locking latch is present and working and prevents the bezel from opening. The spring mechanism is original (not fusee); it has been cleaned and serviced and is in good working order, keeping good time. As we are confident that you will have no problems with the mechanism, we offer a 2-year UK warranty whereby if there were a mechanical problem with the clock, we would collect it free of charge from you, have it repaired and returned free of charge to you. We also offer a 14-day UK returns policy if you were not happy with it or wanted to return it for any reason. Please also note, this clock has the original mechanism; it has not been replaced with a cheaper devaluing electrical battery-operated kit that you see on some clocks.
Setting up the Clock:
The wall clock may require the pendulum to be adjusted once on the wall. The clock will only work if it is placed on a flat wall in a direct up-right position (not on a side angle). Detailed setup instructions will be included when the clock is delivered.

Once you have purchased an item, we will contact you by email and/or telephone and provide you with a provisional delivery date, in order for you to confirm if it is suitable for you. Once you have confirmed you can accept delivery on the provisional delivery date, we will book the delivery in with our shippers and it then becomes a confirmed delivery date.
We will also provide you with our shippers' contact details, in case you need to contact the driver on the day of delivery. It's helpful if you can provide us with both the landline and mobile telephone number, in case the driver cannot reach you on one of the numbers on the day of delivery, they can contact you on your alternative number.
In order to be able to offer you free delivery, it is based on a 1-man delivery only. For any large items that require 2 people to lift the item, we ask that you are available at the time of delivery to be able to give our shipper a lift off the van and into your house with the item. If you are not able to lift items yourself, we ask that you have someone on hand at the time of delivery to assist our shipper with lifting the item.
UK 2-Year Warranty:
A 2-year warranty against mechanical failure is provided commencing from the date of delivery. This warranty does not cover accidental damage (i.e. dropping the clock). In the highly unlikely event there is mechanical failure, we will arrange to have the clock collected free of charge and returned to us for any repair that is required. Once the clock has been repaired, we will then return the clock to you free of charge. Most reasons for the clock stopping is due to the clock not being positioned correctly at the right angle on the wall. This can be easily corrected by re-positioning the angle of the clock to ensure that an even “tick-tock” noise can be heard from the pendulum. This warranty policy only applies to deliveries to the UK.
14-Day Free UK Returns & Refunds:
A 14-day free “no quibble” returns policy (from the date you receive the item) is available if you are not happy with this item. We will collect the item free of charge from you (we do not charge a return fee / collection fee). You will be given a full refund as long as the item is returned in the same condition. We will collect returns using our own specialist furniture delivery company. We will not accept returns via a courier service (due to experience of damaged items in transit). This refund policy only applies to deliveries to the UK.

Cancellations and Returns
Last updated: 24th March 2025
We want everybody’s Vinterior experience to be seamless, so both buyers and sellers can fall in love with pre-loved. We designed our Terms of sale to treat everybody fairly.
However, sometimes things don’t go exactly to plan, and you may need to cancel or return an order.
To prevent this, we encourage you to check listings, photos and descriptions carefully before you buy. If you aren’t sure about a piece’s condition, size, provenance or shipping, just ask; click Contact seller to get in touch. Always contact your seller first if you have any queries, at any point in your purchase.
Our buyers receive the same protection when buying from all our sellers, both professional and verified.
Can I cancel an order?
There are many reasons why you might need to cancel an order, and you'll often be entitled to a refund. To cancel an order, click Create cancellation on the order page.
If you cancel your order before it has been dispatched, you will receive a full refund - including delivery costs. However, if your item has been shipped, delivery costs will not be included in your refund.
Please note: orders of bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
Can I return an order?
We understand that sometimes a piece isn’t the perfect fit. So if you no longer want your order, our returns process will ensure it finds a new home fast.
The Vinterior Guarantee included with your purchase entitles you to 14-day returns - allowing you to return any item within 14 days of the delivery date (except in specific circumstances, detailed below).
You can return your order if...
It isn't what you expected
If what arrives isn’t what you ordered, you can open a return. Just send us some photo evidence that the listing was inaccurate, misleading or misrepresented your purchased piece, and you’ll receive a refund.
You change your mind
If you don’t feel a piece is right for your space, you can return it. Once you request a change of mind return, you’ll be responsible for shipping the piece back to your seller as soon as possible. Delivery costs are non-refundable.
It's damaged in transit
In the rare event that an item arrives damaged or defective, you have a full 30 days from the date of delivery to return it for a full refund.
If your purchase arrives broken, always let us know. If Proovia delivered the piece, we can raise an insurance claim on the seller’s behalf. Or, the seller can raise a claim with their chosen courier.
What can't I return?
Just as there are some orders you can’t cancel, there are some you cant return, too. Personalised, bespoke or made-to-order pieces are non-returnable, and non-refundable. Sellers may also reject your return if the item has been altered in any way.
Please note: pieces on our site are pre-loved, not new. They may show some wear and tear; this is not sufficient grounds for a refund, unless the seller has misrepresented the item’s condition.
Lastly, neither Vinterior nor our sellers are liable for any damages or loss sustained in transit via third parties.
I'm eligible for a return. Now what?
To initiate a return, log into your Vinterior account, then go to the relevant order page and click Create a return. In the return request, be sure to include all the details: the reason for your return, an in-depth description, and photos of any issues or damage.
How will I receive my refund?
Once the seller confirms they’ve received the item (in the same condition it was sent), we will send your refund to your original payment method.
All items are inspected on return. If the seller receives the return with damage they don’t recognise, we will not be able to process your refund and the seller may need to send the piece back to you. You will be required to cover these delivery costs.
