Arts & Crafts pair antique wrought iron candlestick table lamps in the style of Townshends of Birmingham,1920`s ca, English.
This pair of antique lamps have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. Each has the following new components: brass lamp holder with 2 shade rings, cream card covers, black silk cable, black cord switch, black plug (UK Plug up to 250V) & fabric lampshade. Lightbulbs included. These lamps can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these lights in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.
Presented here is a fine & unusual early pair of antique candlesticks lamps made around the 1920`s in the Arts & Crafts style which flourished in England between 1860-1900. They are strongly influenced by the Arts & Crafts Movement but kept modern with its minimal form. They have many of the design features of Townshends & Co Ltd of Birmingham, the attributed designer & manufacturer: the quality handcrafted wrought iron frame and the distinctive patterns.
The pair has a substantial & sculptural presence, well proportioned for a shelf, bedside, sideboard or mantelpiece. They would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, Country, Hollywood Regency, or Contemporary.
Structurally the composition of each candlestick lamp consists of a quality wrought iron frame, with a good weight, painted black. The handmade design is full of exquisite movement & soft rounded details.
The round scalloped base is pierced and divided in four sections with a cross design. The bottom of this cross becoming four `ribbon-like` metal legs. The organic continuous metal work keeps the decorative effect `soft` and adds a sense of movement. At the bottom the feet are finished with an outward portion rolled.
Above the base, at the centre, the main column raises towards the lampholder. The exceptional craftmanship of the artist maker can be seen particularly at either side of the main column where metal decorations organically & continuously join at different heights of the main frame, the two longer ones tight as a decorative knot just under the knob below the black metal drip pan. There is a hidden wrought iron bobeche covered by a new removable cream card candle tube. On top sits a new quality solid brass lamp holder with two removable brass rings to secure both the cream card candle tube & the lampshade in place.
Both lamps are finished with new cream silk fabric lampshades which are included in the price.
Each lamp carries 1 standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present they are fitted & photographed with new LED dimmable Candle Clear shaped light bulbs of 40 Watts. These are included in the price.
These antique lamps are in very good condition for their age. The antique patina has been preserved on the metal. The iron frames are sound with no damages, missing or broken parts. Both lamps were born together as a pair, with the same design, but as they were individually handmade, they have subtle variations in shape & a slight different height between them. There are minor superficial marks & rubbing, adding character & depth, all in line with age & wear. The lampshades are new and in very good condition.

TOWNSHENDS LTD ART METAL Co. ENGLAND HISTORY
Townshends Ltd (T & Co) was the name used from circa 1890 when the Company started production, then Townshend Art Metal Co (Townshend & Co). It started production in Earnest St, Holloway Head, Birmingham making quality brass foundry and copper, and brass art metalware such as holloware and tableware for up-market retailers, for this reason many pieces were not marked at production. After WWI the company shift to the production of industrial heaters.
They produced quality wrought iron items often combined with brass & copper: trays, fireguards, candlesticks, gongs, cake stands, crumb trays, pipe racks, jardinières and candle sconces. The Townshends registered design numbers are present in the United Kingdom National Archive.

Can I cancel an order?

It isn't what you expected
If what arrives isn’t what you ordered, you can open a return. Just send us some photo evidence that the listing was inaccurate, misleading or misrepresented your purchased piece, and you’ll receive a refund.
You change your mind
If you don’t feel a piece is right for your space, you can return it. Once you request a change of mind return, you’ll be responsible for shipping the piece back to your seller as soon as possible. Delivery costs are non-refundable.
It's damaged in transit
In the rare event that an item arrives damaged or defective, you have a full 30 days from the date of delivery to return it for a full refund.
If your purchase arrives broken, always let us know. If Proovia delivered the piece, we can raise an insurance claim on the seller’s behalf. Or, the seller can raise a claim with their chosen courier.
What can't I return?
Just as there are some orders you can’t cancel, there are some you cant return, too. Personalised, bespoke or made-to-order pieces are non-returnable, and non-refundable. Sellers may also reject your return if the item has been altered in any way.
Please note: pieces on our site are pre-loved, not new. They may show some wear and tear; this is not sufficient grounds for a refund, unless the seller has misrepresented the item’s condition.

To initiate a return, log into your Vinterior account, then go to the relevant order page and click Create a return. In the return request, be sure to include all the details: the reason for your return, an in-depth description, and photos of any issues or damage.
How will I receive my refund?
Once the seller confirms they’ve received the item (in the same condition it was sent), we will send your refund to your original payment method.
All items are inspected on return. If the seller receives the return with damage they don’t recognise, we will not be able to process your refund and the seller may need to send the piece back to you. You will be required to cover these delivery costs.
