Description
Antique pair Art Nouveau wall lights sconces, lily flower foliate decoration in gilt bronze, 1890`s ca, French.
These antique wall lights have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to install. Each has the following new components: E14 porcelain & brass lamp holders. Lightbulbs included. These lights can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these sconces in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity.
Presented here is a pair of antique sconces probably made in France around 1890. They are in keeping with the Art Nouveau style flourishing in Paris at the time. They have several distinctive design features: the use of floral and vegetal designs, sinuous curving lines such as the whiplash line, and asymmetry. The manufacturer`s stamp mark " C R " is still visible at the back of one of them.
Symbolically in Art & History, lilies represent purity of heart and soul, spirituality, divinity, new beginnings, the cyclical nature of life, beauty, elegance & love.
These sculptural wall lights have small proportions which is well suited next to the mantelpiece, a mirror, hallway, for the bedside, above a sideboard, chest of drawers, in a cloakroom, by the front door or even placed sweetly as decorations on any wall. With the warm tones, texture & delicate presence, they would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Traditional, Country, Hollywood Regency, or Contemporary.
They are quality cast in gilt bronze with great attention to detail & heavy weight.
The design consist of a long stem formed by foliate leading to a flower, all with great sinuous movement & whiplash lines.
Frontally there is a foliate portion decorated with ribbons flush to the wall. At the back there is an horizontal bracket to fit the sconce to the wall, plus a hole in the bottom portion of the frame. A decorative brass round nut covers the earth.
A continuous motif raises from this base as the tubular stem with 3 leaves leading to the lampholder, which is located at the centre of the 5 petal lily flower.
Great movement and slight diversity of shape on both frames as both sconces were individually cast.
New porcelain & brass lampholders have been fitted to keep the original antique character & look. Each sconce carries 1 standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present they are fitted & photographed with Pygmy Clear shaped light bulbs of 15 Watts. These are included in the price. Any other E 14 lightbulb shape such as Candle or Golf could be used for a different look.
These antique sconces are in very good condition for their age. The frames are sound with no damages or missing parts. The antique patina developed over the years has been preserved on the bronze surfaces, with some rubbing to the gilt & tiny marks in line with age & use, as expected for an antique piece.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care with packing. For safe transport the sconces will be wrapped separately in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. Together these pieces would easily fit into a box with loose fill packing suitable for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).

ART NOUVEAU IN PARIS FRANCE HISTORY
The Art Nouveau Movement of architecture and design had first appeared in Brussels, in houses completed in 1893 by Victor Horta and Henry van de Velde, flourishing in Paris from about 1890 to 1914. It reached its high point at the 1900 Paris International Exposition, with the Art Nouveau metro stations designed by Hector Guimard. It was characterized by a rejection of historicism and traditional architectural forms, and a flamboyant use of floral and vegetal designs, sinuous curving lines such as the whiplash line, and asymmetry. It was most prominent in architecture, appearing in numerous types of buildings, and in the Decorative Arts, particularly glassware, furniture, lighting and jewellery. It spread quickly to other countries, but lost favor after 1910 and came to an end with the First World War.

Cancellations and Returns
Last updated: 24th March 2025
We want everybody’s Vinterior experience to be seamless, so both buyers and sellers can fall in love with pre-loved. We designed our Terms of sale to treat everybody fairly.
However, sometimes things don’t go exactly to plan, and you may need to cancel or return an order.
To prevent this, we encourage you to check listings, photos and descriptions carefully before you buy. If you aren’t sure about a piece’s condition, size, provenance or shipping, just ask; click Contact seller to get in touch. Always contact your seller first if you have any queries, at any point in your purchase.
Our buyers receive the same protection when buying from all our sellers, both professional and verified.
Can I cancel an order?
There are many reasons why you might need to cancel an order, and you'll often be entitled to a refund. To cancel an order, click Create cancellation on the order page.
If you cancel your order before it has been dispatched, you will receive a full refund - including delivery costs. However, if your item has been shipped, delivery costs will not be included in your refund.
Please note: orders of bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
Can I return an order?
We understand that sometimes a piece isn’t the perfect fit. So if you no longer want your order, our returns process will ensure it finds a new home fast.
The Vinterior Guarantee included with your purchase entitles you to 14-day returns - allowing you to return any item within 14 days of the delivery date (except in specific circumstances, detailed below).
You can return your order if...
It isn't what you expected
If what arrives isn’t what you ordered, you can open a return. Just send us some photo evidence that the listing was inaccurate, misleading or misrepresented your purchased piece, and you’ll receive a refund.
You change your mind
If you don’t feel a piece is right for your space, you can return it. Once you request a change of mind return, you’ll be responsible for shipping the piece back to your seller as soon as possible. Delivery costs are non-refundable.
It's damaged in transit
In the rare event that an item arrives damaged or defective, you have a full 30 days from the date of delivery to return it for a full refund.
If your purchase arrives broken, always let us know. If Proovia delivered the piece, we can raise an insurance claim on the seller’s behalf. Or, the seller can raise a claim with their chosen courier.
What can't I return?
Just as there are some orders you can’t cancel, there are some you cant return, too. Personalised, bespoke or made-to-order pieces are non-returnable, and non-refundable. Sellers may also reject your return if the item has been altered in any way.
Please note: pieces on our site are pre-loved, not new. They may show some wear and tear; this is not sufficient grounds for a refund, unless the seller has misrepresented the item’s condition.
Lastly, neither Vinterior nor our sellers are liable for any damages or loss sustained in transit via third parties.
I'm eligible for a return. Now what?
To initiate a return, log into your Vinterior account, then go to the relevant order page and click Create a return. In the return request, be sure to include all the details: the reason for your return, an in-depth description, and photos of any issues or damage.
How will I receive my refund?
Once the seller confirms they’ve received the item (in the same condition it was sent), we will send your refund to your original payment method.
All items are inspected on return. If the seller receives the return with damage they don’t recognise, we will not be able to process your refund and the seller may need to send the piece back to you. You will be required to cover these delivery costs.
